The book “Suites & Atelier Lake Como”, the result of three years of research and writing, is more than a simple historical story: it is an invitation to explore the shore of Sant’Agostino and the village of Coloniola.
From its foundation as a Greek colony to its evolution as the economic heart of the lake, the village retains traces of two millennia of history, culture, traditions and fascinating characters.
This work, created by Francesco Pinto, stands out for Amelia Capelli’s unique narrative approach, which intertwines popular memories with vivid descriptions and historical anecdotes, offering an engaging perspective on Lake Como.
Walter Capelli’s photographs, historical images and original illustrations by Fausto Bianchi enrich the text, creating a complete immersion in the charm of the village of Coloniola.
Some places are different from others
Some places stand out from others for their nature and for the special aura that surrounds them, an energy that can be perceived even by a casual observer.
The village of Coloniola and, in particular, the ancient medieval courtyard that houses Suites & Atelier Lake Como are imbued with this subtle and vivid energy.
This is why it is important to explore, read and discover the many streams of a thousand-year history that winds along the shore of Sant’Agostino. These events, rich in colors and feelings, demonstrate how this place has been and continues to be a crossroads of humanity, art, passions and legends.
We have tried to collect these stories in a light but erudite narrative, which reminds us of our condition as “dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants”.
For two millennia, pirates, war heroes, humble washerwomen, artists, great sailors, devout clergymen, merchants and weavers have brought the lakeshore to life. Now, we wish to share these atmospheres, stories, emotions and traditions with readers and our welcome guests at Suites & Atelier Lake Como.
Inside our suites, theextraordinary art by Maestro Beppe Spadacini embellishes the lovingly restored environment, offering a gift of sharing that will accompany the traveler in the exploration of the past, allowing them to appreciate the great value of our present, characterized by care for places, the passion for hospitality, the love for art and beauty.
